São Domingos de Gusmão

Saint Dominic de Gusmão, a Catholic saint venerated for his dedication to evangelization and service to God, was born in 1170, in the village of Caleruega, Spain. Son of a noble and Catholic family, from a young age, he already felt the call to evangelize.

After dedicating himself to studies and working as a diplomat, Domingos was sent to confront the heresy of the Albigensians in the south of France, spreading the Gospel. He founded the “Order of Friars Preachers” in 1215, which stood out for its Christian evangelization and apostolic life.

His testimony of faith and devotion inspired many, and he became a notable figure in the ecclesiastical events of the time, alongside Saint Francis of Assisi. With his passion and affability, he faced the heresy of the Cathars, seeking dialogue and coherence between his words and actions.

After a life dedicated to the service of God and the Church, Saint Dominic died on August 6, 1221, in the Convent of Bologna. His holiness was recognized by Pope Gregory IX, who canonized him just 13 years after his death.

Saint Dominic de Gusmão continues to be an inspiration for Christians, teaching us about the importance of spreading the Gospel with enthusiasm and charity, seeking peace and unity among the faithful. His legacy of faith and love for Christ remains alive today.
