Saint Pantaleon, doctor and martyr

Pantaleon was born in Nicomedia, now Türkiye, in the 3rd century. He was the son of Eustochio and Eubola, who educated him in the Christian faith.

After his mother's death, Pantaleon studied rhetoric, philosophy and medicine. That's why he became a prestigious doctor.

Encounter and conversion

During the persecution against the Church, Pantaleon met the priest Hermolau, who made him see that Christ is the true Lord of life and health.

It is said that, one day, Pantaleon found a child killed by a viper, and said to himself: “Now, I will see if what Hermolau tells me is true”. And he said to the boy: “In the name of Jesus Christ, arise; and you, venomous animal, suffer the evil you have done.” The child got up and the viper was dead. Soon, he converted, received baptism and dedicated his medicine to curing the poor for free.

Easter

The miraculous cures that Pantaleon performed in the name of Jesus Christ caused the envy of other doctors. They accused him of being a Christian before Emperor Maximian, who ordered Pantaleon to be beheaded. Saint Pantaleon died in the year 305.
