Saint Martinian
He was born in the 4th century, in Caesarea (Palestine). At the age of 18, he entered the hermitage, and soon achieved a reputation for holiness. He was sought after for his gift of directing and advising souls, healing the sick and freeing people from the devil.
When his reputation for holiness spread, a young millionaire named Cloé made a bet with her friends in order to get the monk out of his chaste life. She dressed in rags and asked the monk for shelter, who picked her up and took her to the back of the monastery. There, she began to incite him, but was unsuccessful. The next morning, she appeared to him again, this time in very sensual clothes, sexually provoking him. It is not known whether Martiniano gave in to temptation or resisted it. In the literature, there is controversy about this information, what is known is that the young woman, who until then had bad intentions, after this fact converted to Christianity. After that, Cloé became a nun at the Santa Paula convent in Belém.
After the events on Cloé's part, São Martiniano realized his weaknesses and decided to live on an island. Until, on another occasion, there was a shipwreck in that region, and the only person who managed to save herself was the young Photinia. She found him on the island and asked for help; and even though he helped the girl, São Martinho decided to swim away from that island. He was aware of his weaknesses and preferred to take a risk at sea, swimming kilometers to the other slope. After this fact, he decided to become a wanderer so as not to run the risk of needing to shelter someone and being tempted again.
