Saint Francis Romana

Saint Francisca Romana is one of the most admired figures in the Catholic faith. Daughter of a Christian couple, from an early age the young woman showed her love for the things of God. She followed her mother's teachings and made her devotion and piety clear around her. Although she took a vow of virginity, she ended up marrying Lourenço Ponziani, with whom she had three children: João Batista, João Evangelista and Inês.

As part of Rome's nobility, Francisca wore dazzling costumes and jewelry, but this did not stifle her faith. She took advantage of all her free time to dedicate herself to prayer and charitable work. She helped those most in need, distributing food and begging on the streets. Her family considered her an angel of peace and an example of faith.

When Rome was devastated by hunger, disease and war, Saint Francisca Romana became even more charitable. She spared no effort to help her people, in addition to advising her spiritual daughters in the final moments of her life. In 1608, she was elevated to the honors of the altars by Pope Paul V, who called her “ the most Roman of all saints ” . Today, it is considered a symbol of charity and faith.
