The next day, he discreetly left the ball and went to the Cathedral of Saint Stanislaus Kostka, where, in deep prayer, he received divine instruction to go to Warsaw and enter a convent.
The Journey Toward Religious Life
Determined to follow God’s will, Faustina left home with just the clothes on her back, even without her parents’ permission. She visited several convents in search of shelter, but her low education and poverty made the journey difficult. Finally, the Mother Superior of the convent of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy gave her a chance, on the condition that she work as a maid to pay her way.
On April 30, 1926, at the age of 20, Faustina entered the convent and adopted the name Sister Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament. She understood that this was the place that God had prepared for her and she dedicated herself fervently to religious life.
Work and Challenges
At the convent, Saint Faustina played several roles, from working in the kitchen to caring for other sisters. In 1928, she took her vows as a nun in the presence of her parents. She was then sent to Vilnius, Lithuania, where she continued working as a cook.
