October 7th is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. According to tradition, it was the Mother of God herself who appeared one day to Saint Dominic de Gusmão (1170-1221) in the church of the monastery of Prouille in 1214 and taught him how to pray the Holy Rosary and asked him to spread this practice, promising that many sinners would convert and obtain abundant graces. It is also the title by which the Virgin Mary introduced herself to the three shepherd children in her apparitions in Fátima.
