Novena to Our Lady of the Assumption

Search
Start Date: August 6

The novena of Our Lady of the Assumption begins on August 6th and ends on August 14th. The Liturgical Feast is August 15th. In Brazil, this festival is transferred to next Sunday.

Mary was conceived without sin and had the mission to give birth to Jesus, who would later become the one who died in atonement for our sins. As God's gratitude to the Virgin Mary, she was elevated to heaven in body and soul by the angels. This event, called the Assumption, was proclaimed by Pope Pius XII as a dogma of faith in 1950. Because of her Assumption, Mary did not have to wait for the end of time to obtain bodily resurrection.

First Day

O Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, we believe in your triumphant Assumption into heaven, where the angels and saints acclaim you as Queen of Heaven and earth. We join them in praising the Lord who has raised you above all creatures. With them we offer you our devotion and love.

We are confident that you watch over our daily efforts and we pray that you will intercede for us in our needs (mention the request). We take comfort in faith in the coming Resurrection and look to you, our life, our sweetness and our hope. After this earthly life, show us Jesus, the blessed fruit of your womb, O clement, O pious, O sweet Virgin Mary.

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Second Day

O Mary, Assumed into Heaven, we venerate you as the Queen of Heaven and earth. Your own Son raised you to a throne of glory in Heaven, next to himself. Because you experienced the bitterness of pain and sorrow with Him on earth, you now enjoy eternal bliss with Him in Heaven.

As our loving Queen, intercede for us in our needs (mention the request). We are grateful to Jesus for placing the most beautiful of crowns on your head, while all the Angels and Saints acclaim you as their Queen.

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Third Day

O Mother, Assumed into heaven, because you were present in all the mysteries of our Redemption here on earth, Jesus crowned you not only with glory, but with power.

By your most glorious and powerful intercession, help us, O loving Mother and present our request to Jesus (mention the request).

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Fourth Day

O Dear Mother Mary, God has placed you at His right hand so that you can dispose of the treasures of grace through a singular title, that of Mother of God.

Among all the Saints, you are their Queen and ours – dearer to the Heart of God than any creature in his Kingdom. You pray for your children and distribute to us all the grace won by our Beloved Savior on the Cross.

With your most sacred title, intercede for us in our needs and ask Jesus to grant us this favor, if it is for the good of our souls (mention the request).

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Fifth Day

O merciful and loving Mother, may your glorious beauty fill our hearts with a distaste for earthly things and a yearning for the joys of heaven. May your merciful gaze look with compassion on our struggles and our weakness in this valley of tears.

Hear, then, loving Mother, our supplication and pray to Jesus for us (mention the request).

Cover us with the pure mantle of innocence and grace here on earth, and with that of immortality and glory in Heaven.

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Sixth Day

O Mary, our dear Mother and powerful Queen, take and receive our poor hearts with all their freedom and their desires, all the love, all the virtues and graces with which they can be adorned. All that we are and all that we can be, all that we have and all that we possess by nature as well as by grace, we receive from God through your loving intercession.

Help us, dear Mother, to return to God everything we have, including our requests (mention the request). O Our Lady and Queen, in your sovereign hands we entrust everything that can be returned to its noble origin.

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Seventh Day

O Mary, Queen of all hearts, receive all that we are and that unites us to you by the bonds of love, so that we may be yours forever and be able to say with all truth: “I belong to Jesus, through Mary” .

O Our Mother, Assumed into Heaven and Queen of the Universe, Ever-Virgin Mother of God, obtain for us what you ask, if it is for the glory of God and the good of our souls (mention the request). O Our Mother, Assumed into Heaven, we love you, but give us a greater love for Jesus and for you.

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Eighth Day

O Mary, Queen Assumed into heaven, we rejoice in your title of Queen of Heaven and Earth. You gave your holy “Fiat” to God and became the Mother of our Savior. Obtain peace and salvation for us through your prayers, for having given birth to Christ our Lord, the Savior of humanity.

Intercede for us and take our petitions before the Throne of God (mention the request). Through your prayers, may our souls be filled with an intense desire to be like you, a humble vessel of the Holy Spirit and a servant of Almighty God.

Pray for us, O Queen Assumed into Heaven, that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

Hail Mary…

Ninth Day

O Most Holy Mother Assumed into Heaven, after years of heroic martyrdom on earth, we rejoice that You were finally taken to the throne prepared for You in Heaven by the Holy Trinity. Lift our hearts with you in the glory of your Assumption, above the terrible touch of sin and impurity. Teach us how small the earth becomes when seen from the sky.

Make us realize that death is the triumphal door through which we will pass to your Son, and that someday our bodies will join our souls in the infinite happiness of Heaven.

From this land, upon which we tread as pilgrims, we look to you for help.

In honor of your Assumption into Heaven we ask for the grace of (mention the request). When the hour of our death comes, lead us safely into the presence of Jesus to behold the vision of God for all eternity, together with you.

Pray for us, O Queen Assumed into Heaven, that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

Hail Mary…
