Saint Conrad, example of reconciliation with God

In the city of Noto, in the Sicilian region, the figure of Saint Conrad is highly esteemed. He is characterized as a Franciscan hermit, carrying a cross in his hands and numerous birds, a symbol of his reconciliation with nature.

Conrado began his life in sin. He set fire to a forest to hunt hares, causing great losses. When the local governor began looking for the culprit, Conrado decided to confess his crime, even if it was costly.

After this, he and his wife became Franciscans and he decided to follow the life of a hermit . So, he went to the caves and from time to time changed monasteries, looking for solitude.

Despite his vocation, Conrado did not neglect caring for those in need. On Fridays, he went down to the city to visit the sick in the hospital and prayed before a famous crucifix in the cathedral.

Conrado was blessed with the gift of miracles and also carried with him the reputation of holiness. His last days were dedicated to silence, prayer and poverty, until he died on February 19, 1351.

Currently, the cave where Saint Conrad lived as a hermit is called the Grotto of Saint Conrad and in the city of Noto there is the Church of Saint Nicholas, known as the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, where Conrad was buried. He and Saint Nicholas are patron saints of Noto.

Saint Conrad is an example of reconciliation, because even with many sins committed, he managed to give himself completely to God and seek peace.
