Saint Jacinta Marescotti: life dedicated to charity

Born Clarice Marescotti, in 1585, Santa Jacinta Marescotti was the daughter of a Roman prince and a noble family, possessing great possessions, but with devotion and love above all. Early on, she was sent to a convent for her education at a Franciscan school. As a young girl, she wanted to get married and start her family, but destiny had another path in store for her.

From luxury to dedication to the Lord

The disappointment of not being able to marry the young man she fell in love with led her to take other paths in her life, giving herself over to sin. Therefore, her father sent her to the Monastery of Saint Bernardino, in Viterbo, where she had studied when she was still young. There, she received the name Jacinta and submitted to the Franciscan Tertiary habit, maintaining the luxury of when she was noble, but not giving up her vows of chastity.

Life dedicated to the poor

After her father's death, Jacinta understood the importance of titles, possessions and luxury. She was cured of an illness, asked her sisters for forgiveness, gave up all luxury and dedicated herself to total surrender to the Lord. During the next 24 years, Jacinta experienced deprivation and giving to others, especially the poor and sick. With the financial assistance of old friends, he managed to direct works that provided social assistance to those in need, founding asylums and orphanages.

Canonization and legacy

Saint Jacinta Marescotti died on January 30, 1640 and was canonized on May 24, 1807 by Pope Pius VII. His legacy of love, devotion and charity continues to this day, serving as an inspiration to many people.
