Saint Constantius, the First Bishop of Perugia

Saint Constantius is the first bishop of Perugia and a great example of Christian devotion. At the age of 30, he was called to govern the Church of Perugia, in Italy, and fulfilled his obligations as a true pastor. He was known for his spirit of mortification and generosity, which he showed towards the poor and needy.

Persecution of Marcus Aurelius

Constantius faced persecution from Marcus Aurelius, Roman emperor, for a long time. Arrested a few times, he was condemned, first, not to worship idols. He was then accused of a new offense and had to walk on hot coals, but he remained firm in his faith.

During his third imprisonment, in the year 178, he was beheaded. The first cathedral in the city of Perugia was built on the site of his tomb, as a way of honoring him.
